Can't go wrong with a good roll recipe.
Written as if you had a stand mixer but can be done by hand.
Prep Time: 45 min
Cook Time: 12 min
Total Time: 57 min
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Milk
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/4 Cup Butter
- 4 5 Cups Flour
- 3 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 2 Packets (4 1/2 Tsp) Yeast
Instructions
- Combine milk, water, and butter in small saucepan. Heat over low-heat until liquids are very warm (120 -130 deg). Butter does not need to melt.
I think mom normally did this in the microwave.
- Place 3 1/2 cups flour, sugar, salt and yeast in bowl. Attach bowl and dough hook. Turn to Speed 2 and mix 30 seconds. Gradually add warm liquids to flour mixture, about 30 seconds. Mix 1 minute longer.
- Continuing on Speed 2, add remaining flour, 1/2 cup at a time, until dough clings to hook and cleans sides of bowl, about 5 minutes. Knead on Speed 2 for 3 to 5 minutes longer.
- Place in greased bowl, turning to grease top. Cover; let rise in warm place, free from draft, 15 minutes.
- Turn dough onto floured board. Shape as desired. Cover; let rise in slightly warm oven (90 deg) for 15 minutes. Bake at 425 deg for 12 minutes or until done.
- Remove from pans and cool on wire rack.
